♣ As a Second Life resident and live music host/manager, who are you describe yourself as and where do you get your interest in music?
I have always loved music; I was the mixed tape/make you a CD girl in real. I discovered live music in SL early 2018. My first show was a Stratus gig and I absolutely loved it. Initially I just attended shows. Eventually I started hosting for a couple of musicians, helping them at their shows.
♣ How long have you been a host/manager in Second Life? What did charm you to join this project?
In 2020 The Colorful Quiet came back to SL and we started hanging out. I helped during his shows, and it just evolved into management. With CQ he let me figure out how to be a manager in my own way. I did not want to hire a staff, so I knew I would keep it small, attending all my people’s shows and handling whatever support they needed.
♣ What do you do in Real Life? How do you describe yourself with music in Real Life?
In first life I am a financial crimes consultant, so I do a lot of technical writing and evaluation of financial data. Very different from music. Music is an escape for me. I often have Spotify on or am looking for YouTube videos. Working with musicians in SL gives me a creative purpose after a heavy day of analysis.
♣ How do you usually spend your time as a Second Life Resident? Any project?
Most of my time in SL is spent working with my artists. Phemie and Aufwie are amazingly talented, and they mean the world to me. I am here for my other artists currently on hiatus, but when/if they come back to SL I will support them. I have had a nice management career in SL. I have been a venue host, booked talent for a venue, helped with collaborations between musicians, organized a summer tour and worked on another team to help another manager while still supporting mine. Currently I do not have any active big projects as I am taking a more relaxed approach in my SL journey.
♣ What are the positive and negative sides of hosting live music events?
Hosting live music is how I started, but I much prefer the managing side. I work with some fabulous venues and enjoy booking gigs. SL slows down in the summer, so I am waiting for things to ramp up again. One of the hard parts is the lack of response, I answer everybody and always have, be it on the manager side of the equation or the booking side. I think people forget about that. At shows I try not to overwhelm with too much advertising, posting links at key points during a show. If all you see are your comments in local, then that’s too much.
♣ Anything you would like to add?
It is important to support live music in SL. Go to shows. Tip the artist and the venue. Always explore what is out there and try checking out an artist you have not seen. Click their links, follow their music and social media because it really does help them be heard.
