SL ISO Spotlight / February 2025

♣ As a Second Life resident and SL ISO musician-actor, who are you describe yourself as and where do you get your interest in music?

In RL elementary school music class I wanted to play trombone, but my front teeth were missing, so Mr. Polly, my teacher, assigned me to play the flute. I was disappointed and never really put my heart into learning the flute. So, later, Mr. Polly moved me to a snare drum and I have loved drumming ever since. I DO admire my dear friend, Wyndi Orchid, who has been playing flute next to me in the SL ISO since Fly Kugan organized the orchestra. I play clarinet, in SL, but not in RL, even though I do have front teeth now. In all honesty, I have never been an accomplished musician in RL, but I have very much enjoyed being able to play one, and to perform with

Fly, and Wyndi, and the orchestra in Second Life.

♣ How long have you been a musician-actor in SL ISO? What did charm you to join this project?

Fly invited me to join the orchestra before its second performance, something over two years ago. Aside from her invitation, I was charmed into wanting to perform with her after attending many of her solo violin performances. It was kind of like being plucked from obscurity in the audience to perform onstage with the star.

♣ Are you a musician in Real Life? How do you describe yourself with music in Real Life?

I am more fan than performer in RL. I have attended many RL pop concerts and I dearly loved Luciano Pavarotti though I never had the privilege of seeing him sing live. I did see Mikhail Baryshnikov dance with theAtlanta Ballet during his final tour before retirement. I inspired my RL son to begin drumming in elementary school and he went on to perform two years with the Atlanta Youth Symphony and a couple of rock bands.

♣ How do you usually spend your time as a Second Life Resident? Any project?

I learned to build soon after I arrived in SL in 2007. I still enjoy building with prims but I have never warmed up to mesh. I am currently working on a gallery inspired by The Guggenheim Museum in New York City. I attend a lot of tribute concerts, and live solo performances by RL artists. I enjoy performances at Theater On The Hill and by the excellent DEJA VU Ballet.
