Merryjest Starchild

Writer: Noa Cloud / November 2024

Merryjest’s love for music began at a young age. He still remembers being impressed by Julie Andrews’ voice in Mary Poppins, especially the song “Feed the Birds.” The song’s deep emotions and Andrews’ magical performance inspired him to make others feel the same through music. His musical taste was shaped by many influences—French singer-songwriters like Michel Sardou, classical composers like Mozart, and the rock music his older brother played. His first record purchases—ABBA, a Donizetti opera, and Enya—show just how varied his inspirations are.

As a classically trained crossover singer and lyrical tenor, Merryjest often performs pieces like “Una Furtiva Lagrima” (L’Elisir D’Amore), “Losing My Mind” (Follies), and “Nessun Dorma.” One of his most popular acts is his original parody song, “Second Side of Life,” which humorously reflects on Second Life experiences.

Merryjest joined Second Life in 2004 and started performing there in 2010. Known for his colorful outfits and multimedia shows, he actively engages with his audience, just as he does in his real-life performances.

He loves Second Life as a platform for creativity. Beyond singing, he designs custom avatar mods, like his unique Cheshire Cat head. He also lilkes exploring, attends events, and experiments with storytelling in the virtual world. Recently, he started training with the United Furry Wrestling federation, finding new ways to tell stories through performance.

Outside of Second Life, Merryjest enjoys reading, drawing, painting, and gaming—especially RPGs and narrative-driven adventures. He’s even working on a game project. In the real world, he loves traveling and playing board games with friends.

You can check out Merryjest’s performance schedule on his website (merryjest.live) or Simstar profile (https://www.simstarsl.com/). Don’t miss his special Christmas concert with the Second Life International Symphony Orchestra (SL ISO) on December 22nd, 2024!
